Doctor Michael Brinkenhoff developed the Revitalash product for his wife, who was a breast cancer survivor. Her eyelashes had been damaged by chemotherapy. With his twenty five years of experience as an ophthalmologist, Doctor Brinkenhoff aimed to create a treatment that would restore eyelashes that were strong.

The aim of the product is to make lashes longer, fuller and thicker within a time period of just under a month to two and a half months. The eyebrows can also benefit from use of the treatment, which has shown to darken eyelashes. Application involves brushing the formula onto the eyelid by the roots of the lashes nightly.

Sodium chloride is present in the ingredients list. It is also commonly known as table salt and serves to make the liquid thicker. Panthenol is derived from the B5 vitamin to promote length and shine. Trifluoromethyl dechloro ethylprostenolamide also works to lengthen hair. Chlorphenesin is a muscle relaxant an cellulose gum and water are also part of the mixture.

Disodium phosphate, citric acid and phenoxyethanol are included to help the product last longer on the shelf. Every ingredient is approved by the Food & Drug Administration. The original concoction underwent alterations to adhere to certain requirements, and the new product was released in January of 2008.

As with any product, there is a chance of side effects. One of the more common occurrences is the iris getting darker. The surrounding skin can also get darker in some cases.

There are five products under the Revitalash brand. These are the eyelash conditioner, which is created with the reworked mixture; an eyebrow enhancer called Revitabrow, which is to be used on a daily basis; a mascara to volumize the lashes; a primer to further enhance the appearance of the lashes; and a conditioner for the hair, which works in the same way as the lash product.
